In a thrilling Week 9 encounter, Power Dynamos Football Club (PDFC) secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kabwe Warriors at Arthur Davies Stadium on October 27, 2024, ending the visitors unbeaten run and climbing to second place in the league standings.
Prince Mumba opened the score sheet with a majestic header in the 6th minute, capitalising on his aerial prowess against his former team.
Kabwe Warriors’ captain, Field Kandela, inadvertently turned a Moses Phiri pass into his own net in the 27th minute, doubling Power’s lead.
The hosts maintained their two-goal advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, Power Dynamos Head Coach, Osward Mutapa, made strategic substitutions to preserve the lead, introducing Linos Makwaza junior, Faustin Bakodila, Osmond Chita, John Soko and Jacob Kaunda. Aaron Katebe, Prince Mumba, Fredrick Mulambia, Moses Phiri, and ishamael Ankobo came in at different intervals of the game.
Kabwe Warriors pushed for a comeback, with Edward Tembo scoring from a free kick in the 86th minute. However, Power’s goalkeeper Willard Mwanza made crucial saves to secure the win.
The victory propels Power Dynamos to second place with 16 points, four points shy of current league leaders, Zesco United, while Kabwe Warriors drop to sixth place with 13 points from nine games played so far.
During the match, Linos Makwaza Jr, Aaron Katebe, Austin Muwowo and Pride Mwansa received yellow cards.
In their week 10 fixture, Power Dynamos will face Lumwana Radiants Football Club in Solwezi this coming Saturday, seeking to continue their momentum.
