Power Dynamos FC delivered a crushing 4-0 victory over Zanaco FC, keeping them within striking distance of the top spot in the Zambia Premier League. Goals from Chifundo Mphatsi, Brian Masanyinga, John Soko, and an own goal sealed the win for Power Dynamos.

Malawian international Mphatsi opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a well-placed low shot that beat Zanaco goalkeeper John Ngobola, who had a torrid game. The teams went into the break with Power Dynamos holding a slender 1-0 lead.

The game’s turning point came in the 51st minute when a moment of confusion between Zanaco captain Kelvin Kapumbu and goalkeeper Ngobola resulted in an own goal, doubling Power Dynamos’ lead. Versatile center-back John Soko then made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute, rising above the competition to head in a Kondwani Chiboni cross.

The icing on the cake came in the 77th minute when substitute Brian Masanyinga scored a spectacular long-range left-footed shot, sending the Arthur Davies crowd into a frenzy. Coach Osward Mutapa made several changes in the second half, introducing goal-scorer Masanyinga for Austin Muwowo in the 69th minute. Masanyinga made an immediate impact, scoring just three minutes later.

Other changes saw Linos Makwaza Jnr replace Owen Tembo in the 82nd minute, Kapembwa Musonda came on for Eddie Ishmael Ankobo, and Osmond Chita replaced Chifundo Mphatsi. Emmanuel Kunda also replaced captain Prince Mumba in the 88th minute.

The win propels Power Dynamos into fourth place in the league standings, with 36 points from 22 games, four behind leaders Zesco United.

Power Dynamos’ next fixture is against Green Buffaloes in Lusaka on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
